Course Details

Ever wondered what is so different about the management of an acute dialysis unit? Why is the tide so hard to navigate when it comes to inpatient unit success when it comes to staff retention and compliance with standards? During this session, you will have the opportunity to learn from key partners who have learned to adjust the sails in their programs. Presenters will outline tips and tricks for applying outpatient ESRD knowledge to learning to partner with hospital administration. People will also gain access to a new resource that outlines key components of successful acute programs.

Presented by:
  • Melinda Keto, Clinical Manager at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center
  • David E. Henner, DO, Division Chief, Nephrology and Medical Director of BMC Kidney Disease & Hypertension Center

Topic_Banner_for_Web_1_3.jpgWe need braver leaders and more courageous cultures to show up and better serve the people around us. Based on Dr. Brené Brown's latest research, you will develop an understanding of where, how, and why you self-protect and armor up. You will also examine the behaviors that characterize daring leadership compared to armored leadership and recognize your call to courage.

Presented by:
  • Rose Markey, MA and Certified Dare to Lead Facilitator, University of Virginia

Topic_Banner_for_Web_2_1.jpgDialysis is a life-sustaining therapy. This leads to a challenging path to navigate. The foundation and need for bioethics as a professional arm were founded on the challenges of having limited dialysis patients' resources in the 1970s. Which patients are appropriate for dialysis? When should palliative care or hospice be encouraged? How do we allocate resources, including when in a pandemic situation? This session will combine the Nephrologist and Bioethicist expertise and discuss how to navigate some of the most challenging patient situations.

Presented by:
  • Leah Metz, MD - Gundersen Health Systems
  • Thomas Harter, Ph.D. - Gundersen Health System
